The use of scheduled readings from scripture goes back to the Early Church, having most likely developed out of Jewish practice. The practice of making the psalms a key part of every believer’s daily walk with God goes back to the same period.
The schedule of morning and evening psalms on the homepage is based on the centuries-old Book of Common Prayer lectionary, which takes readers through the entire book of Psalms once a month. This involves reading up to 12 psalms per day. Here we limit the psalms to 2 per day, which allows us to cycle through most of the psalms every 3 months and all 150 psalms at least twice yearly.
